June 30, Sade brought her soulful act to the Bell Centre.
By the time the floor opened up and elevated her to the main stage it was 9:30.
This night was mostly for lovers as couples made up for most other crowd.
I knew this was going to be a great show from the minute she sang her first notes of Soldier of Love. Her voice was clear, powerful and there was never a distorted sound from her group. She spoke to the crowd a bit letting us know that she felt the love from Montreal, but that’s about all I heard as a scuffle ensued in the row ahead of mine…something about mixed up seats.
The stand out song for me was ‘Is it a Crime’, with the sax and bass player adding a bit more of a jazz tinge to the song than usual, sounded just perfect especially since we are now in the middle of the jazz fest.
Sade did not provide any out –of-this-world dance choreography or pyrotechnics that we’ve become accustomed to from other acts, just her sultry voice crooning her entire catalog for 2 hours was enough for us.
I hope we don’t have to wait another 10 years for her to return to Montreal.
